Deathsong Chronicles - Sonata 5

The creature was a distortion of reality, a human mutated with mantis claws and brown, tough skin, and had acid saliva dripping from it's impossibly large maw. It roared with a roar reminiscent of a lion.

Xepher dodged both the lunging claw and the acid spit, and tried to slash at it's head. It kicked him aside with astonishing speed.

"I'm fighting a big alienish thing." said Xepher over the intercom.
"Yeah, I'm picking up the bio-signal from your location. Try breaking it's claws first." said Jennifer.

Xepher did just that, and the creature shrieked in pain. It hissed and spat acid at Xepher. He dodged aside, and lunged at it, slicing it into four.

After that, the captain said:" Hmm...the bio-signal disappeared. There are four more in the area, can you take care of them?"

"Yeah, sure." Xepher charged into the facility, and the four bioweapons attacked him at once. He spun around quickly, again and again, so as to fight all at once.

After a couple minutes, Xepher reported:" Area secured, mission accomplished."
"Wait! I'm picking an ENORMOUS bio-signal coming from that door near you. Go in and destroy the target." said Jennifer in an astonished voice.
"Roger." he rushed in...and nearly ran into the jaws of an enormous spider-like creature, dripping the same kind of acid from it's mouth. Behind it was several eggs, apparently hatchlings of those monsters. It was as large as three times the size of a house, certainly big enough to swallow him whole.

He immediately cast a fireball spell to burn the eggs. The mother shrieked in anger and immediately lunged at the insipid intruder. He dodged, and the swiping claw severed a rope.

The entire platform shuddered as one of it's supports was cut. Xepher hit on an idea. He leapt from corner to corner, cutting the ropes. The platform shuddered, shook...

...and fell into an abyss below, the monster shrieking in terror. Xepher just barely clung on to the floor remaining. "Phew." muttered Xepher.

"Ahead is the transport that will take you directly to the commanding bridge. Wait for Jesslyn and you will ascend it." commanded Jennifer.

And so he waited.
And waited.
And waited.

And it was when he was going to contact Jennifer again when Jesslyn came in the room. "About time. Let's go." snarled Xepher, very annoyed.

They raced to the elevtor, literally. The elevator rose at an alarming rate. It wasn't any normal elevator, though. It was a big platform, rising in the air. Anyone could fall off.

They rose, and suddenly heard a voice:"Close in on the target!" And a reply:"Yes, sir!"

Xepher looked down over the edge of the lift, and saw three Blue Mist units closing in rapidly. He readied his sword. Jesslyn prepared spells.

The warriors closed in on them, aiming their crosshairs on them. The two soul warriors dodged the laser blasts, and Jesslyn let loose with several ice darts. They completely pierced the warrior's torso, and he fell down, down the shaft.

And collided with three other units, who vanished in a massive fireball.

Same happened to another who was knocked down after his jetpack was destroyed by Xepher. The final one was scared, and looked ready to whimper, but still determined to complete his mission or die trying.

Xepher launched himself at the Blue Mist, and removed his jetpack, sending him falling down. He then threw the jetpack, and took aim with the Blue Mist's own gun and fired. The shot pierced both jetpack and fighter. He threw the gun back down.

A flying form raced up from below, this time an armored mech, with two blade attachments on it's sides. A voice said:"I don't know who you are, and I don't care, but one thing is certain. You two are the strongest fighters I've ever come across. I am the Colonel, and you are dead!" He let loose the blades, attached by chains, and they spun round and round like a buzzaw. He also attacked with lasers and rockets.

Xepher leapt aside from the deadly blades' path, and leapt forwards to strike the Colonel, when a laser hit him. He gasped as he flew backwards, skidding and almost falling off the side of the lift.

Jesslyn did an impossible thing. She leapt onto the cockpit, and attacked endlessly. The Colonel reached up with one clawed hand, and grasped her neck. She cried out in pain.

Xepher rose and launched himself at the Colonel, stabbing into the midsection of the mech. It gave a small splutter, and started to burn. Both soul warriors leapt off.

They watched in horror as the Colonel literally burned to death. His last words:" A fitting end...for one who has lived on the battlefield. I...regret...nothing." With that, he exploded.
