Deathsong Chronicles - Prelude 1

A long, long, time ago, there existed a universe, parallel with our own.
In this universe, magic was as common as... anything. Magic came in all sorts, wielded by soul warriors. Magic was in many forms, from sorcery, necromancy, druidism, cabalism, summoning, chaotic, shadowmagic, elemental, flameswielding, hydraulism, aerialism, earthbinding, enchantry, arcanism, potion lore, force magic, teleportism and so on and so forth.
In the human world, such soul warriors go to the school of Rhapsodia to study the arts. Most have innate cabalism, or termed "tracing" by non- magic users, allowing the casters to conjure, change the form of objects into, or simply forging, hand weapons with ease.
So to say, there was a fateful year when four gifted youngsters entered the school. Xepher, already formidable in any hand to hand combats, Shadowz, who wielded the katana with astounding ease, Jennifer, who had cabalism of the speed of light, and Emily, who has deadly skills in her nunchaku fighting styles.
Upon arriving at the legendary school, they rapidly find out that they're gonna have the time of their lives!

Chapter 1: The journey to Rhapsodia
*Yawns* "Are we there yet?" asked Jennifer with a voice that hinted of her death by boredom.
"Stop asking "are we there yet?". We'll be there by dark." replied Shadowz in an exasperated voice.
"Is it dark yet?" asked Emily.
*grins* Xepher said:" Not really, so if you need to go to the toilet, hold on for a couple more hours."

The caravan the four thirteen-years old teens were on jolted and halted in the middle of the road.Xepher frowned. There should'nt be a stop for miles. "What...?" muttered Shadowz.

Suddenly, the ground rumbled ominously. Xepher jumped out and beckoned the rest to follow suit. Barely had Emily cleared the caravan, when a massive sandworm busted out of the ground, devouring the transport. "Holy shit." muttered Jennifer. Everyone looked at her. "What?" she said defensively."I curse when I'm nervous."

The worm reared up, and plunged down with the force of a rampaging rhino. Xepher morphed his quicksilver ring- named "Cypheria" after a loved one- into a sword, and barely got in front of Shadowz in time to slice the monstrosity in twain. Green ichor rained on the teenagers.

"Ugh."said Emily, nauseated. "And I thought the caravan smelled bad." They stared around at the desolate plains. "Now what? Two hours of caravan journey means four with walking speed." burst out Shadowz.

Suddenly, a fleet form darted overhead. All glanced up, and saw a dwarven flying machine carrying several crates slow down, landing in front of them. A stout dwarf strode out, and enquired:" What ye doing here, humans? Tis no place to be in the sun." True enough, the sun was scorching hot. "We were attacked by a sandworm, and our caravan was eaten. Could you give us a lift to Rhapsodia?" replied Shadowz. At this, the dwarf laughed, and said:" Aye, that's where I'm headed. Got some supplies to deliver, and such. Come aboard!"

They were flying blithefully for a few minutes, however, before a winged gryphon attacked them. Typically, the girls screamed. Loudly. Shadowz sighed, and drew his katana. Xepher and the dwarf looked at him as if he was insane. Shadowz gave them a cursory glance and leapt at the gryphon. By then they were a hundred feet up, and nothing survives that fall on such a hard ground.

Shadowz plunged his sword calmly into the beast's skull, and leapt back into the machine, leaving the gryphon to fall. "Well, that went ok." said Shadowz. "You're mad." replied Jennifer, at the same time looking at Shadowz with an adoring expression. Xepher and Emily chose not to notice this.

"Ladies and gentlemen," announced the dwarf,"We've arrived at Rhapsodia."
