Deathsong Chronicles - Prelude 8

The day of battle arrives. As the forces of the White Knights amass on the plains of Dagorlad, the small group arrived at the camp. Ruby proceeded to the tent, where he met with Sieghart.

"We'll be joined by several warriors from Rhapsodia, and they should arrive about-" began Ruby.

"We're here already, Ruby. Me, Onimaru and a few older students. And we're gonna go in when the main bulk attacks the gates. We'll destroy the gate defenses and open that bulkhead." said Soroga.

"And you'll claim all the credits." muttered Ruby under his breath. Not soft enough to be missed by everyone, though. Everyone laughed.

The battle started, as a legion of knights charged at the gates with battering rams and catapults. The gate, forged of adamantium, shuddered and shook violently, but didn't give way. Demons poured down from the battlements of the gate, shrieking and screaming their bloodlust.

Soroga and the other soul warriors, including Xepher, Shadowz and Jennifer ( the other two aiding the attack on the gate), advanced to the southern wall, and set a C3 charge explosive there. (Yes, yes. In those days, there were modern guns and stuff existing with those olden weapons {although the laser rifles weren't useful, because people tended to cut you down before you pulled the trigger.})

With an earsplitting explosion, the wall came down in rubble. The soul warriors charged in the place, and killed the sentries standing there, bewildered by the assault.

Soroga himself cut down an entire platoon of demons that came charging towards the breach. Then, they assaulted the main chamber, where a dark crystal was housed.

Dark crystals give powers to all demons in the vicinity, and so are a necessity to destroy. However, like some video games, these 'destroy the target' things are often guarded by something big and ugly.

As the group raced to the chamber, Xepher took the lead, with Shadowz and Jennifer close behind. Right when they passed the threshold of the chamber, an adamantium grille slammed shut behind them, cutting them off any escape route.

Around the crystal emerged a force field, stronger than even the impenetratable adamantium metal. A massive demon dropped from the celing, and roared at the three tresspassers.

"Naaga...." muttered Xepher as he drew his sword, the other two following suit. The demon wielded a trident, glowing dark blue.

Xepher charged the demon head on, and struck it's trident, sending it flying. It retaliated by swinging a massive fist, and Xepher went slamming into the wall.

Shadowz brandished his hand and yelled:" Shadow slinger!" and a ball of pure night erupted from it. It flew at the Naaga with unerring accuracy and struck it's chest, making it fall to the ground, weakened.

Xepher cast a purification spell to eradicate the unholy demon. It died with a shriek of hatred. He then morphed Cypheria into a warhammer as the forcefield surrounding the crystal disappeared, and smashed it into smithreens.

The walls crumbled, the floors cracked. As they escaped the place, the whole structure crashed to the ground and the demons died as one. The humans cheered jubilantly as one of the mighty fortresses of the land was destroyed.
