Licht struggled mightily with Xepher and Kaffleen as the three combatants rolled, dodged, dashed, fought and parried over the chamber. She repeatedly threw magic attacks, threatening to slow them, stop them or even steal their youth. All were blocked and thrust back.
Then finally her guard dropped, for a split second. Never one not to capitalize on an advantage, Kaffleen fired a scintillating cornucopia of colourful energies at the Death Knight, blasting her all the way to the wall of the chamber. A few stalactites fell around.
Xepher followed up quickly with a couple of strikes to the weakened Licht. She cried out and slashed blindly, landing a glancing blow by luck to the side of Xepher's head. He was stunned momentarily, but that was all the Death Knight needed to recover.
She had not counted on Kaffleen, however, who edged closer quickly. She impaled her black runesword into Licht's torso, drawing forth a cry of hatred and agony. The Timeblade came swinging around, almost succeeding in decapitating Kaffleen, if not for Xepher's quick parry. With a final shudder, Licht went limp and dropped to the ground.
'So much for being a Death Knight,' snorted Kaffleen.
They moved onwards into the chamber, the way behind still blocked.

Seism was able to hold his own against the group of Soul Warriors, and he was actually gaining the upper hand. He had managed a few bloody strikes, and received less than half of what he dealt.
Then Kaithlyn shrieked in fury and sent a crackling wall of psychic energy at the Death Knight, bowling him over. In an instant, she was there, raining blows down on him. Seism was ripped everywhere, and for a moment could not do anything.
Then he screamed and surged upwards with ruthless abandon. Dark energies pulsated through him, and forced back Kaithlyn. Alloyn rushed the Death Knight and punched at the dark barrier, the exorcising powers of her fists driving the demonic essence away.
Shadowz and Jennifer dropped behind him and struck once, twice, a third time. Already weakened, he dropped to his knees. At a final, desperate bid to hold the attackers off, he warped the density of himself, becoming denser and denser until gravity itself bent into him, and everything that touched him was crushed by sheer lack of density.
Sieghart chose this time to launch his attack, calling upon magics far older than the Death Knight. A violet aura rose from him, gathered in one sphere of roiling energy, and was released into Seism. He was blasted, the density spell broken, and struck the ground. He did not stir.

The Soul Warriors met a little way in, as the tunnels converged into a point. The tunnel spasmed and pulsated madly yet with rhythm, as if it was an immense living thing breathing heavily. They sensed a foul presence in the depths of the earth.
As they emerged in a massive chamber, cylindrical in shape, they collectively gasped at the massive, floating mass of evil powers and foul, rotted corpses.
'An Amalgam.' exclaimed Sieghart, for once the ancient warrior thrown off.
'A what?' inquired Kaffleen, studying the monstrous thing distastefully. Life fluids dripped sickeningly down from it. Only now did she notice a spiralling walkway climbing up to the top of the chamber; a walkway designed to allow contact with the foul creation of the Death Knights.
'Amalgam. It feeds on magic, growing stronger and stronger until it is strong enough to release the thing it contains, a being made of pure chaos called a Changeling.' said Sieghart. 'The Changeling is a being that can shift forms, from it's original, white-and-black humanoid shape into anything at all.'
Xepher readied his sword. 'Then, let's destroy it before it completely drains whoever it holds. For such a powerful monster, surely its source of magic is strong too. I want to see who is it. Preferably with them alive.'
He led the way up the ramp, but immediately as his foot touched the walkway, corpses in the walls began to detach themselves, shambling towards the intruders.
Without hesitation, Xepher sliced into the first one, and proceeded to butcher the rest. Yet more and more came. And still more.
The others followed him quickly.
