Deathsong Chronicles - Nocturne 6

The banished warriors entered the Rift Warriors' encampment, and met the leader of the order, Demuth. There, at the high table, the warriors related the dire incident in Rursus, and the need to return to the said place.

The Rift Warriors' leader nodded his bearded countenance, and declared that they would follow them into battle, leaving only a small force behind to deal with the otherworld monsters.

And so, the Rift Warriors, and the small but powerful band of Soul Warriors headed through the Rift of Reality.

At Rhapsodia, Soroga and the others amassed a gargantuan force, with more arriving every minute. Their plan was to get as large a force as possible before assaulting the demons.

They retreated to the holy grounds of Elis, where the demons would be weaker, should they choose to attack the defenders.

Retreated and waited, for the signal of the Orcs and their allies.

Jesslyn had convinced the orcs and their allies. The Horde would attack the demons, after the messengers they sent returned. They had sent a hundred messengers, all in different ways, so if a few were intercepted, it was of no consequence.

At the meantime, she laid plans of attack for the Horde's leaders. The orcs were the main force, suffering the brunt of the attacks. Trolls were to attack the flanks. Goblins operated their warmachines, and ogres were to be dropped from the goblins' airships and rampage every demon in sight.

It was a good plan, so they thought.

The escape battalion of Elite Guards and Emily had made their way to the Ice Peaks. And, true to his word, Razel and the others met a squad of patrolling White knights.

At first, they were faced wih hostility. Then, after explaination on Emily's part, the White Knights rode back to their castle, and returned with a full force. Together the two factions travelled through the Ice Peaks, seeking a path through the hazardous storms of snow, searching for the entrance to the fabled dragon lairs.

And to convince the dragons, they needed as large a battalion as possible, if it came down to fighting them.

Thus it was, that the entire battalion entered the cave entrance, and immediately encountered a sentry dragon. It snarled at them, and demanded in a booming voice:" Who are you to enter the Lairs?! You have no buisiness here. Begone with you!"

Emily calmly strode up to the behemoth, and explained their situation.

The dragon was surprised, both at the return of Aria and the audacity of the intruders. He bade them enter, and they drew the attentions of every single behemoth in the enormous cavern systems.

And when they reached the queen, Xaxas, a couple of dragons barred the exit of the chamber.

The queen of dragons gave what passed as a reptilian smile, and said:"Welcome. I hope that you will find this place hospitable. I see that you are shivering from the cold."

She blew a flaming breath at a spot on the floor, and a fire ignited there. "Sit by the fire, as we talk."

And so they had talked. And after that, they slept with the dragons for the night.

The sun's zenith was just peaking over the horizon, and shafts of brilliant light speared through the landscapes, creating sharp shadows out of everything, from the giant boulders, forming massive shadows, to every blade of grass, each shadow so sharp they could almost cut.

And as the sun broke the dawn, the mighty dragonflight took off, with the battalion on their backs, to search for the other, exiled dragons. They would need all their numbers to combat the demons.

"So, my Elite Guard has deserted me. No matter. They will all suffer for their betrayal." hissed Aria in a dark, hidden chamber deep within the bowels of the palace.

The archdemon raised his hands, and invoked an arcane summoning.

"Come forth, my loyal servant. The time for your glory has arrived."

"Come forth...Endless."

A shriek filled the massive chamber, music to Aria's ears. Two eyes of pure crimson flared through the darkness.

Aria smiled.
